Security officers at the Megiddo Prison in northern Israel are seen abusing Palestinian inmates in video footage that was made public by an Israeli newspaper.
In the Haaretz video, a guard is seen putting a police dog to the hands of inmates, some of whom are face down and in handcuffs.
The publication added that Palestinian prisoners said that when there was no camera surveillance, the guards would beat them.All rights reserved.
Senior Israeli Prisons Service officials, who wished to remain anonymous, told the newspaper that “severe violence” is committed against prisoners in Megiddo, but the service called its protocols “routine.”
The video was denounced by Hamas, who claimed it “reveals the extent of hatred and sadism against Palestinians.”
More than sixty Palestinians, according to the Palestinian resistance organization, have perished in jail from malnutrition, abuse, and inadequate medical care.
It demanded that Israel cease its mistreatment of detainees through international pressure.
