Rashida Tlaib, a Democratic congresswoman from Michigan, adds to the US Congressional record the names of over 11,355 Palestinian children who were killed by Israel during the siege of Gaza.
Congresswoman Rashida Tlaib of the Democratic Party filed a horrifying document into the official record on the floor of the US House of Representatives during a powerful and intensely emotional moment. The document contained the names of thousands of Palestinian children who were slain by Israel in the besieged Gaza region.
The Health Ministry of Palestine produced a 649-page document that includes a horrifying list of children who were killed by Israeli bombs and shells.
“The names of babies under the age of one are on the first 14 pages alone,” Tlaib remarked on Thursday, her voice heavy with grief.
That’s seven hundred and ten newborns killed by the Israeli government. I hope my coworkers would have a look at it.”
Tlaib, the lone Palestinian American congressman representing Michigan, wasn’t holding back.
“These aren’t just figures. These are young people.”
Her remarks caused an uneasy hush in the room and served as a sobering reminder of the human cost of Israel’s genocide in Gaza.
Israel has killed about 41,000 Palestinians since the war began on October 7, 2023. 11,355 of them were minors. Studies indicate that this is a conservative estimate, and the number is growing.
With a raised voice, Tlaib declared, “This is not self-defence.” “This is genocide.”
Every known Palestinian dead in Gaza is included in a 649-page dossier that was made public by the Gaza Ministry of Health.
Babies younger than one can be found on the first 14 pages alone.
Evidence of devastation
Tlaib has been one of the most outspoken opponents of the Israeli government’s activities in Gaza for several months.
The list of names she sent in covered hundreds of pages. The first few pages contained the names of newborns, while the last few listed elders, Palestinians between the ages of 77 and 101, many of whom had witnessed decades of war and the establishment of Israel in 1948.
Hunter College sociology professor Heba Gowayed wrote, “This is a genocide of children,” in response to Tlaib’s proposal.
“Babies on fourteen pages. It is essentially an attempt to exterminate a people.”
The reputable UK medical publication The Lancet published a paper in July that raised the possibility of many more deaths. If the conflict had concluded at the time of their analysis, it was projected that between 149,000 and 598,000 Palestinian deaths may have been caused directly or indirectly by Israel’s military operation.
Tlaib declared in front of Congress, “I stand here as a Palestinian American, but I am also a mother.” “These are our children.”
