Islamabad, (Parliament Times) : President of Azad Jammu and Kashmir , Barrister Sultan Mahmood Chaudhry, has appointed Professor Dr. Khawaja Farooq Ahmed as the interim Vice Chancellor of the Women’s University, Azad Jammu and Kashmir, Bagh, until the appointment of a permanent Vice Chancellor. The Vice Chancellor of the university, Professor Dr. Abdul Hameed, has completed his term of office on June 2, 2025 and has retired from the post.
The official notification of this appointment was issued by the Registrar of Women’s University Bagh, Dr. Muhammad Mushtaq, according to which Dr. Khawaja Farooq Ahmed has been entrusted with the duties of Vice Chancellor on an interim basis in accordance with the decision of the 22nd session of the Senate and Section 11(7) of the Women’s University Act, 2014.
He will perform these responsibilities in addition to his current position as Director, Haveli Campus, University of Poonch, until the appointment of a permanent Vice-Chancellor is appointed. Professor Dr. Khawaja Farooq Ahmed is a versatile educationist, who completed his PhD and post-doctorate from Newcastle University, UK, while receiving his primary education from the University of Agriculture, Peshawar.
He served in the University of Azad Jammu and Kashmir and the University of Poonch for nearly 30 years and held various key positions ranging from lecturer to professor, dean, registrar, founding director of research and planning and even interim vice-chancellor.
Under his supervision, several important educational projects were completed, including the $135 million “King Abdullah University Campus”, and several financial and administrative reforms. He introduced an endowment fund, a pension fund, an investment committee, and dozens of research and development projects for financial self-sufficiency, which were praised nationally.
