Following reports of loud blasts, a large number of security personnel and their vehicles were stationed near Dbeibah’s home.
A Libyan minister told the Reuters news agency that rocket-propelled grenades were used to target the home of Prime Minister Abdulhamid Dbeibah. The incident resulted in no casualties.
The minister, who remained anonymous, stated in a statement on Sunday that the attack only slightly damaged things.
The ministry has not provided any more information.
At PM Dbeibah’s home in Tripoli’s Hay Andalus neighborhood, two residents reported hearing loud explosions close to the coast.
According to a bystander, there was a significant presence of security personnel and their cars in the vicinity following the audible detonations.
protracted impasse in politics
Since an insurrection supported by NATO in 2011, Libya has seen little peace or stability. In 2014, the country broke into eastern and western groups, with competing administrations in charge of each region.
Following an unsuccessful attempt to arrange national elections that resulted in a protracted political impasse, the east’s parliament stopped acknowledging the legitimacy of Dbeibah’s Government of National Unity, which had been appointed through a UN-backed procedure in 2021.
Early in March, three influential figures said that the “necessity” of establishing a new, unified administration to oversee the protracted elections had been reached.
A new government won’t take over from Dbeibah without holding national elections, she has pledged.
