President Tayyip Erdogan held establishment on his station towards Finland and Sweden’s NATO flings on Tuesday, saying Turkey wanted results not words to address its enterprises, adding he’ll also push US President Joe Biden on a” stalled” F- 16 fighter spurt purchase.
Breaking with decades of a policy of impartiality, Finland and Sweden applied for NATO class in light of Russia’s irruption of Ukraine. But they’ve faced opposition from Turkey over what it says is the Nordic countries’ support for zealots it views as terrorists, and arms vetoes on Ankara.
Turkey has held addresses with the Nordic countries and NATO to address its enterprises and has given Finnish and Swedish officers written demands. It has said the responses weren’t satisfactory and that it would block their flings unless its demands are met.
Speaking before departing for a NATO peak in Madrid where he’ll meet the Nordic and NATO leaders for addresses on the flings, Erdogan said the two campaigners must consider Ankara’s enterprises if they want to be NATO abettors.
” We’ll hold these four- way addresses together and see what point they’ve reached,” Erdogan told journalists at the field.
” We don’t want dry words, we want results. We’re sick of passing the ball around in themid-field. As of now, they’re producing words,” he said.
Erdogan’s prophet and deputy foreign minister met Swedish and Finnish officers in Brussels on Monday for consultations on the class flings ahead of the four- way meeting at the peak. Turkish officers and Western diplomats told Reuters a advance was doubtful in Madrid.
Erdogan said he’d explain Turkey’s position to abettors at the peak and in bilateral meetings. He added he’d spoken to Biden on Tuesday morning and the two would meet in person either latterly in the day or on Wednesday, upon the US chairman’s request.
He said he’d bandy the issue of Ankara’s procurement of S- 400 defences from Russia which lead to US warrants and a request to buy 40 F- 16 spurts and modernisation accouterments from Washington at the meeting, as well as other bilateral issues.
” Our most important discussion with the United States is the F- 16 issue. That’s still on the table, but there’s a stalling tactic then,” he said.
The White House latterly verified the two will meet in Madrid.
