An OCHA spokesman claims that the Rafah crossing from Egypt and the Kerem Shalom crossing from Israel are the two main routes that allow supplies to enter Gaza.
The principal entry point for humanitarian aid into Gaza, the shuttered Rafah crossing, has been closed by Israeli authorities, according to the UN.
The UN humanitarian organization OCHA’s spokesman, Jens Laerke, stated on Tuesday that there was only a gasoline supply that would last one day to support humanitarian activities within the besieged Palestinian area.
“We do not currently have any physical presence at the Rafah crossing as our access has been denied by COGAT,” he stated, making reference to the Israeli organization in charge of managing goods into the Palestinian territory.
“We’ve been informed that, for the time being, there won’t be any personnel or cargo crossings in or out. That significantly affects our stock holdings.
Lack of fuel
“The gasoline supply is limited to one day’s worth of buffer.
“As fuel only comes in through Rafah, the one-day buffer is for the entire operation in Gaza.”
According to Laerke, “it would be a very effective way of putting the humanitarian operation in its grave” if no gasoline is sent.
He noted, referring to the Kerem Shalom crossing from Israel and the Rafah crossing from Egypt, that “the two main arteries for getting aid into Gaza are choked off at the moment.”
