The administration claims that a woman has been killed every four days this year due to a surge in violence against women, which served as the impetus for the protests on Saturday.
The demonstrations came after a large-scale stabbing incident that claimed six lives in Sydney this month, five of them women.
Sydney, the state capital of New South Wales, saw a gathering of protesters calling for stricter criminal legislation, followed by a march that blocked main roadways.

Albanese participates
On Sunday, Prime Minister Albanese announced that he would participate in a protest in Canberra, the nation’s capital.
“On social media platform X, I will walk alongside women throughout Australia to declare that enough is enough.” Albanese stated.
Senator Sarah Hanson-Young of the Green Party stated in Adel aide that “a national emergency response” was required to address the problem.
A representative for Hanson-Young stated, “Women are tired and sick of being told ‘yes it’s bad but there’s not much we can do.'”
State capitals Perth, Western Australia; Melbourne, Victoria; Hobart, Tasmania; and Brisbane, Queensland were all set to host similar protests over the course of the weekend.
In the 26 million-person country of Australia, violence against women is still a problem. Tens of thousands of people demonstrated in 2021 in response to claims of sexual assault and wrongdoing in some of the most powerful governmental positions in the country.
