The White House stated that the two presidents, Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Joe Biden, spoke about the military, diplomatic, and economic facets of the Ukrainian leader’s proposal.
Presidents Volodymyr Zelenskyy of Ukraine and Joe Biden of the United States met to discuss US support for Ukraine in its defense against Russia.
Following the US announcement of a new arsenal of weaponry and roughly $8 billion in aid for Ukraine, a meeting was held on Thursday at the White House.
The White House released a statement in which Biden “outlined his decision to surge US security assistance to Ukraine, and President Zelenskyy presented his plan to achieve victory over Russia.”
The statement also stated that the leaders assigned their teams to have in-depth discussions about the next course of action after debating the military, diplomatic, and economic facets of Zelenskyy’s strategy.
They decided to get together in Germany on October 12th, when Biden will host a summit of the Ukraine Defense Contact Group leaders.
Zelenskyy met with Vice President Kamala Harris separately after his meeting with Biden, and she expressed her “unwavering” support for Ukraine.
Zelenskyy had already met with members of the US Congress on Capitol Hill to go over the main components of his war plan with Russia.
The security guarantee of NATO membership is part of the plan, the details of which have not yet been made public, according to Andriy Yermak, chief of staff for Zelenskyy.
Zelenskyy-Trump meeting
On the US campaign trail, Donald Trump, the Republican nominee, criticized Zelenskyy and voiced concerns about Ukraine’s ability to prevail in its fight with Russia. However, he later announced that he would see Zelenskyy on Friday.
In a press conference on Thursday, Trump restated his assertions that, should he defeat Harris, he could quickly broker an agreement between Russia and Ukraine.
“President Zelenskyy has asked to meet with me, and I will be meeting with him tomorrow morning at around 9:45 in Trump Tower” in Manhattan, Trump stated.
When asked by a reporter whether Kiev would have to cede some territory in order to strike a peace agreement with Moscow, Trump did not rule out the possibility.
He said, “We’ll see what happens.”
