US President Joe Biden hopes to make a “bottom” for relations with China when meeting Chinese leader Xi Jinping coming week, but he’ll be honest about US enterprises, including over Taiwan and mortal rights, an elderly administration functionary said on Thursday.

The White House said Biden will hold addresses with Xi on November 14 on the sidelines of a Group of 20 nations peak in Indonesia, their first face-to-face meeting since Biden came chairman.

The meeting comes amid deeply simulated Sino-US ties, particularly after US House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s August trip to Taiwan, the tone-governed popular islet which Beijing claims as its home.

The elderly administration functionary said there would be no common statement from the meeting, which wasn’t being driven by prospects for specific agreements.

“The chairman believes it’s critical to make a bottom for the relationship and ensure that there are rules of the road that bound our competition,” the functionary told journalists in a call on the meeting.

“I anticipate the chairman will be honest about a number of our enterprises, including PRC(People’s Republic of China) exertion that threatens peace and stability across the Taiwan Strait, as well as our long- standing enterprises about mortal rights violations,” the functionary said.

There also was anticipation that Russia’s war in Ukraine and North Korea would be bandied, the functionary said.
