US to give $10m for food security assistance, says Blinken

WASHINGTON: US Secretary of State Antony Blinken said on Monday he was pleased to advertise another $10 million for food security backing, adding he was transferring a simple communication that “we are then for Pakistan just like we’ve been in the history”.

Secretary Blinken said this during a meeting with Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto- Zardari where they had a “good and engaging and expansive discussion” on a host of issues.

At the meeting, Mr Blinken also talked about managing a responsible relationship with India. He said “Our associates also spoke about China and we also critically talked about heightening our relations.”

Secretary Blinken said “We’re convinced to do much more on trade and induced that the( bilateral) relationship is strong and will continue to be stronger.”

During the meeting, Mr Blinken also said “We’re meeting when Pakistan’s one-third (area) is underwater. We have a sense of urgency and a sense of determination. We’re looking ahead to rebuilding (bilateral ties).”

He further said that both countries had worked together on collective pitfalls and worked together on counterterrorism and participated in common objects in Afghanistan.

“This is a flexible relationship, able of coming over all challenges,” Secretary Blinken said.

FM Bhutto- Zardari reached Washington on Sunday evening with Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Hina Rabbani Khar and other members of his platoon.

Soon after his appearance, the foreign minister met US State Department’s Special Representative for Commercial Affairs Dilawar Syed and bandied with him colorful options for the expansion of trade ties.

In the meeting, Mr Syed “emphasized US private sector’s part in rebuilding structure post-floods,” the foreign minister said in a tweet.

He said he also “stressed Pakistan’s eventuality and sought lesser US investment” in the country and in the government’s green energy plan.

Mr Syed said that in his meeting with the foreign minister, he expressed “our solidarity with the millions of Pakistanis impacted by ruinous cataracts”, adding that the US was leading the transnational trouble to support Pakistan with an original direct backing of $53m. “We bandied erecting on the instigation from my recent visit to Islamabad to expand US- Pakistan profitable relationship,” he said.

The United States is Pakistan’s largest single country import request and one of the largest sources of foreign investment, with US direct investment growing by 50 percent at once time. The US-Pakistan bilateral trade reached nearly$ 9 billion in 2021.

US companies and their original cells are among Pakistan’s largest employers, with roughly 80 US companies directly employing further than 1,25,000 Pakistanis, and further than one million Pakistanis employed laterally. In 2021, US enterprises invested up to $5.7 m in commercial social responsibility enterprises in Pakistan.

Mr Bhutto- Zardari also met US commercial leaders, representatives of colorful American companies, and prominent members of the Pakistani American community at the hearthstone of the Pakistani minister.

At an earlier briefing to Dawn, State Department’s counselor Derek Chollet conceded that the US wanted to maintain friendly ties with Pakistan and it didn’t want Pakistan to abandon China for perfecting its relations with Washington.

In a meeting with a delegation of Medicines San Frontier(MSF), the foreign minister appreciated the part this transnational NGO is playing in furnishing health installations to flood tide-affected people.

The MSF is a transnational organisation of croakers that provides medical services to people across the globe.
