Unstoppable migrants surpass police and cross the US-Mexico border

According to border officials in the Texas state, migrants attempt to scale razor wire barriers in El Paso City by hiding behind clothing and cardboard, hoping to get past the obstacles and into the United States.

Numerous US media agencies have reported that hundreds of migrants have overrun National Guard personnel manning the border in the state of Texas following their storm.

According to border officials, the migrants attempted to climb over the barbed wire fences and enter the US on Thursday by covering them with clothing and cardboard in the city of El Paso.

The migrants were apprehended by the Texas National Guard, who then loaded them into cars and transported them to an immigration processing facility.

This most recent occurrence occurs in the midst of a heated dispute about arrest authority over the hundreds of thousands of illegal migrants who enter the country each month between the administration of President Joe Biden and Texas Governor Greg Abbott.

Legislators in Texas approved Senate Bill 4, or SB 4, which gives state law enforcement the authority to apprehend undocumented immigrants and gives state judges the authority to deport or sentence them to up to six months in jail.

Repeat offenders might spend two to twenty years behind bars. On Tuesday, the US Supreme Court decided that SB 4 may take effect, permitting states to enforce their mandates to apprehend undocumented immigrants.

However, the 5th Circuit Court of Appeals put the law on hold until further notice a few hours later.

“Invasion” of the border
Texas Republican governor Greg Abbott has called for a “invasion” of the southern border, while Mexico has issued a warning saying it will not tolerate deportations from Texas.

Republicans in the US hold Biden accountable for the nation’s recent record-breaking immigration wave.

In 2023 alone, more than 2.4 million migrants fled poverty, conflict, and natural disasters made worse by the climate crisis by traveling over the southern border of the United States, most of whom came from Venezuela and Central America.

However, US Customs and Border Protection authorities claim that in December 2023 alone, close to 250,000 migrants crossed the southern border—the largest monthly number ever.

According to US immigration law, refugees may apply for asylum by turning themselves in to Border Patrol officers.
