Tropical primary forest loss fell by 9% in 2023 compared to the previous year, but still resulted in the destruction of 37,000 square kilometers nearly the size of Switzerland. This loss generated greenhouse gas emissions equivalent to half of the annual emissions from fossil fuel burning in the US.
