“Time to end it”: Trump claims that peace negotiations in Ukraine are “under way.”

“That’s not from the standpoint of economy but the standpoint of millions of lives are being wasted,” US President Donald Trump said when expressing his desire to end the conflict in Ukraine.

While bemoaning what he described as the “huge loss of life,” US President Donald Trump stated that he hoped to meet Russian President Vladimir Putin shortly in order to bring an end to the nearly three-year-old conflict with Ukraine.

“I would really like to be able to meet with President Putin soon to get that war ended,” Trump said via video link on Thursday at the World Economic Forum in Davos after returning to the White House on Monday.

Trump often stated in the lead-up to his election victory on November 5 that he would have an agreement between Russia and Ukraine on his first day in office, if not earlier. Now, his advisors acknowledge that it will take months to end the conflict.

“And that’s not from an economic or other perspective. From the perspective that millions of lives are being squandered… It’s a massacre. “And we must put an end to that war,” he continued.

Trump also stated that, ideally, US attempts to reach a peace agreement were currently in progress, but he provided no specifics.

“It’s crucial to finish it. “That is a killing field. It’s time to put an end to it,” he declared.

Quick reductions in interest rates
“With oil prices declining, I’ll demand that interest rates drop immediately,” Trump added, vowing to fight for immediate interest rate cuts. Similarly, they ought to be declining everywhere in the world.

He pointed out that Saudi Arabia would soon be investing heavily in the US economy.

“It’s also reported today in the papers that Saudi Arabia will be investing at least $600 billion in America, but I’ll be asking the crown prince, who’s a fantastic guy, to round it out to around $1 trillion,” said the prince.

In his remarks, Trump also hinted at his intention to work with Saudi Arabia and the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) to lower oil prices.

He said, “I’m also going to ask Saudi Arabia and OPEC to bring down the cost of oil,” relating the protracted confrontation between Russia and Ukraine to high oil prices.

“The conflict between Russia and Ukraine would end right away if the price dropped. The cost is high enough now that the conflict will go on,” Trump claimed.

He also stated that he hoped to see advancements in nuclear disarmament.

“We would like to see denuclearization,” he said, alluding to his previous discussions with foreign leaders. He asserted that Russian President Vladimir Putin was amenable to talks about drastically cutting nuclear weapons.

“Putin liked the idea of cutting way back on nuclear,” Trump stated.
