At a conservative gathering, the software tycoon, who was selected by Donald Trump to reduce US federal expenditure, displays a present from President Javier Milei of Argentina.
Argentina’s libertarian President Javier Milei gave Elon Musk, the entrepreneur charged with cutting federal government expenditure in the United States, a chainsaw as a gift when he took the stage at a conservative conference outside of Washington.
Holding the shining power tool in the air, Musk declared, “This is the chainsaw for bureaucracy,” during Thursday’s Conservative Political Action Conference in National Harbor, Maryland.
The vulgar Spanish slogan of the Argentine leader, “Viva la libertad, carajo,” which roughly translates to “Long live freedom, damn it!” was etched on the side of the red metallic chainsaw that Milei had handed Musk earlier in the day.
Milei frequently brandished a chainsaw at campaign rallies prior to his election as president of Argentina in late 2023, signifying his desire to reduce the size of the government.
“He is unable to pay me.”
Under US President Donald Trump, Musk is spearheading massive cuts that have impacted tens of thousands of federal workers, including bank regulators, forest workers, rocket scientists, and others.
According to a person familiar with the situation, 6,000 US Internal Revenue Service workers were informed they will be let go on Thursday.
When asked about the Russia-Ukraine war during the interview with Rob Schmitt of Newsmax, Musk interrupted, saying, “People claim I’m a bought asset of Putin? He can’t afford me, I think.
The internet mogul responded, “I think we should have empathy for the people dying at the front lines,” in response to criticism directed at Trump for his strategy for ending the war. That is the most crucial factor.
