“The state of Palestine is not a utopia. That is true, my friends. “This is something that we should all embrace for our actions and stories,” says Foreign Minister of Turkey Hakan Fidan.
Hakan Fidan, the foreign minister of Turkey, has blasted Israel for not accepting a two-state solution and issued a dire warning that the unresolved Palestinian conflict poses a threat to regional stability.
“We cannot wait for Israel’s goodwill to implement the two-state solution,” Fidan stated on Thursday at a ministerial meeting on Gaza held in New York on the fringes of the UN General Assembly. The meeting was organized by the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), the Arab League Gaza Contact Group, the European Union, and Norway.
“The decision of the Israeli parliament to deny a Palestinian state and the two-state solution is clear enough,” he stated.
“This is pure greed that should not be condoned.”
Fidan declared: “The ceasefire talks are at an impasse because (Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin) Netanyahu torpedoed them whenever a ceasefire seemed within reach.” She added that Israel’s ceaseless killing spree in Gaza continues with no end in sight.
“Israel expanded its aggression first to the West Bank and East Jerusalem and now to Lebanon,” he stated.
The bombings on Lebanon have drawn criticism from the international community because they might potentially spread the Gaza conflict throughout the region.
“Because of Netanyahu, there are flames engulfing our region.”
According to the foreign minister, Turkey has always maintained that an unresolved Palestinian issue would plunge the entire region into “a black hole.”
“With Lebanon, this is precisely what is taking place right now. Because of Netanyahu, our region is ablaze in flames,” Fidan stated.
“This is a make-or-break situation. Sincere knowledge of the actual nature of the issue has grown as a result of Israel’s genocidal onslaught, he stated.
He mentioned that the State of Palestine had lately gained recognition from nine additional nations, and he expressed optimism that more will follow suit.
“The state of Palestine is not a utopia. That is true, my friends. In our stories and actions, we should all embrace this, added Fidan.
Fidan stated that a new path had been made possible by the UN General Assembly resolution dated May 10, 2024, and the advisory judgment of the International Court of Justice. She continued, saying, “Now, we are one veto short of our objective.”
“The State of Palestine should be a full UN member,” he stated.
“Implementation of the two-state solution will also ensure durable security for all,” the minister continued, adding that “the occupation of Palestine has never brought peace or more security to Israel.”
Fidan further mentioned that in order to meet both nations’ security demands, Türkiye suggested creating a guarantorship structure.
“The two-state solution is an endgame, and it should be implemented before it is too late,” he stated.
