According to the Sudan Doctors Network, hundreds of people were forced to leave the community of Alseriha, and dozens more were injured.
According to the Sudan Doctors Network, the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) attacked the village of Alseriha in the central Sudanese province of Gezira, killing at least 124 people.
In an announcement released on Saturday, the non-governmental organization said, “A force associated with the RSF committed a massacre against civilians in the village of Alseriha, resulting in the death of 124 people from the area following an armed attack that lasted for hours, while dozens were injured and hundreds were displaced from the village.”
As a “irrational escalation against civilians who have chosen to remain for more than a year in difficult and tragic humanitarian conditions,” the network denounced the RSF attack on Alseriha and other communities in the east and west of Gezira.
The RSF has not yet offered any commentary on the matter.
The International Organization for Migration (IOM) said earlier Friday that increasing fighting between the RSF and the Sudanese army caused 853 households to be relocated from Tamboul city and nearby communities in Gezira state between October 20 and 24, 2024.
Days have passed since RSF leader Abu Aqla Muhammad Ahmed Kikil in Gezira declared he was defecting to the Sudanese army and taking his troops with him.
Kikil’s forces now fight alongside the army, based in parts of his home province of eastern Gezira.
Kikil’s RSF forces took over a number of Gezira cities in December 2023, including Wad Medani, the state capital located just south of Khartoum.
According to the UN, the RSF and Sudan’s army have been engaged in a bloody struggle since mid-April 2023 that has killed over 20,000 people and displaced over 10 million more.
As the crisis threatens to push millions into famine because to food shortages in 13 of Sudan’s 18 states, the UN and the international community have stepped up their pleas for an end to the violence.
