President Erdogan of Turkey keeps up his hectic routine at the Turkish House while he attends the 79th UN General Assembly session in New York.
“Türkiye’s ties with Sudan are developing day by day and solidarity between both countries will continue to grow stronger,” President Recep Tayyip Erdogan stated at the Turkish House during his meeting with Abdel Fattah al Burhan, the chairman of the Sudanese sovereignty council.
The two talked about regional and international concerns in addition to bilateral relations during their meeting on Wednesday.
Erdogan stated, “The ongoing conflict in Sudan must end as soon as possible and we must intensify our efforts to achieve this goal,” on Tuesday as part of his statement at the annual UN General Assembly.
Sudan’s dire circumstances
Fighting between the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) and the Sudanese army has engulfed the country.
The battle that began in April 2023 has resulted in at least 12,260 deaths and over 33,000 injuries, according to UN estimates. According to the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA), families including women, children, and entire groups are being forced to leave everything behind as the situation worsens throughout Sudan. According to OCHA, Sudan is experiencing its “worst food insecurity in 20 years.”
Over 7.7 million people have been internally displaced in Sudan since the conflict started in April 2023, according to a report by the International Organization for Migration (IOM).
