The incursion has been branded as a “terrorist raid” by Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova, who further states that it “annuls any possibility of any negotiations with the bandit junta.”
According to Maria Zakharova, a spokesman for the Russian Foreign Ministry, Ukraine’s entrance into Russia’s Kursk area “annuls the possibility of any peace talks.”
Described as a “terrorist raid,” Zakharova denounced the Kiev strike during a news conference on Wednesday in Moscow, adding that with such “outrage, no one will negotiate with them (the Ukrainian authorities) at all.”
“This attempt by the Ukrainian Armed Forces to invade our territory a priori — I will emphasise once again what was said by the Russian leadership, a priori — annuls any possibility of any negotiations with the bandit junta,” she added.
According to Zakharova, Volodymyr Zelenskyy, the president of Ukraine, launched the operation in an attempt to get more support from the West, solidify his position, and enhance his standing among the populace.
She continued by denouncing as “lies” claims made by Western leaders that Kiev conceived and carried out the plan without their cooperation.
“In the first place, the Anglo-Saxon duo is not only ideologically inspired and sponsored, but also acts as actual gunners, directing the Kiev regime toward targets within the Russian Federation,” state the United States, the United Kingdom, and other NATO members. Thus, their claims that this is happening without Western assistance are untrue,” she declared.
The purpose of Incursion
Because of the possibility of drone attacks, the airspace over the Russian cities of Murmansk and Apatity was blocked.
There is still fighting between Ukrainian and Russian forces in the Kursk region, where Kiev invaded on August 5–6.
According to Russian officials, since Kiev’s incursion began, more than 121,000 people have been evacuated, with 17 reported killed and 140 injured.
Zelenskyy declared that 92 Russian localities had been taken by Ukrainian forces, outlining the operation’s goal as the “establishment of a buffer zone.”
Rustem Umerov, the minister of Ukrainian defense, stated on Wednesday to a group of US congressmen that Kiev’s incursion into Russia’s Kursk area was done so in order to defend Ukraine.
In a statement issued by his ministry, Umerov was cited as stating, “Our goals there are to clear the border from Russian military threats and make enemy shelling and attacks on our towns and villages impossible.” The comment was directed towards the Kursk region.
Vladimir Putin, the president of Russia, called the incursion a “terrorist attack.”
