In the provinces of Aleppo and Idlib, armed groups seize control of 56 villages and other locations.

According to local sources, armed opposition groups engaged in combat with the Bashar al-Assad regime in Syria advanced within one kilometer (0.62 miles) of Aleppo city’s outskirts on Thursday.

The fighting started early on Wednesday in Aleppo province’s western countryside.

56 villages and locations in the provinces of Aleppo and Idlib were overrun by armed factions.

In the districts they occupied, they also confiscated Assad regime military vehicles, depots, and heavy weapons. Numerous soldiers from the regime were killed in the confrontations, and dozens were taken prisoner by the armed groups.

According to reports, the opposition groups have seized 400 square kilometers (154 square miles) of terrain during the last two days of battle in the provinces of Aleppo and Idlib.

The opposition troops advanced on the New Aleppo neighborhood, which is located on the outskirts of the city, after battling through the night.

In rural Idlib, over 10,000 civilians have sought safety from the fighting.

The battle is getting more intense and is now concentrated on Aleppo’s downtown.
