Sixteen European lawmakers wrote a letter to the European Commission as a champion of universal human rights, fundamental freedoms, and the rule-based international order, to act on ‘alarming humanitarian situation’ in Indian-occupied Kashmir.

Addressed to European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen and Vice President Josep Borrell, the letter said: As an advocate of all-inclusive basic human rights, fundamental freedoms, and the rule-based international order, the EU should speak more loudly against the infringement of basic freedoms influencing individuals of Jammu and Kashmir.

We accept that the EU should utilize all its influence and instruments to help out our Indian and Pakistani accomplices to respect the promise made to the Kashmiris by the international community and establish a helpful environment for the execution of the United Nations goals.”

The legislators communicated the determination to proceed with their commitment with Pakistani and Indian officials just as Kashmiri pioneers to put forth for them the pressing need to encourage an environment of harmony and discourse in the area.

The letter noticed that it was “critical” for Kashmiris to be heard and conceded the chance to choose their own future.

The officials approached the EU’s to pass on the grave concern over the infringement of common liberties and key opportunities in IoK to the Indian government, to make an earnest move to address the common freedoms of the local people and to Add to harmony and dependability in the district by upgrading exchange between India, Pakistan and Kashmiri delegates through utilizing uncommon associations with the two India and Pakistan.

It brought up that the tragedies of individuals of Jammu and Kashmir had been sufficiently archived in the International Human Rights Watch World Report 2021 and reports by the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights in 2018 and 2019.

The legislators noticed that the region was already under a lockdown since India revoked its special status on August 5, 2019, and there were limitations on the rights to movement, information, healthcare, education and free speech.

It added that various laws presented by the Indian government throughout the years to forestall psychological oppression and rebellion had rather regularly been abused against Kashmiris.
