In Al-Ula, Madina, on Monday, Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Asim Munir met with Saudi Arabia’s Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al-Saud to discuss ways to strengthen ties between the two nations.

The first official trip COAS Munir has taken since his appointment spans a week and will conclude on January 10.

The Saudi Press Agency (SPA) reports that earlier today, Prince Salman greeted the army chief at the winter camp in Al-Ula.

The SPA report stated, “During the reception, they reviewed bilateral relations and the ways to enhance them, in addition to a number of issues of common concern.”

It also stated that National Security Advisor Dr. Musaed bin Mohammed Al-Aiban and Saudi Defense Minister Prince Khalid bin Salman bin Abdulaziz attended the reception.

Ameer Khurram, Pakistan’s Ambassador to Saudi Arabia, and other officials were also there.

Last week, Gen. Munir had a meeting with Saudi Defense Minister Prince Khalid bin Salman, and the two of them talked about ways to work together more.

The leaders had talked about important regional and international issues of common interest as well as ways to support and improve military and defense cooperation.

The COAS will meet with senior leaders from Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates to “discuss matters of mutual interest, military-to-military cooperation, and bilateral relations focusing on security-related subjects,” according to a statement from Inter-Services Public Relations.
