Russia begins a fresh strategic nuclear drill

President Putin stated that Moscow must have its nuclear forces prepared for action but that Russia will not participate in any arms race.

On Tuesday, Russia announced that its senior authorities would examine the control of nuclear ballistic and cruise missile launches as part of a new strategic nuclear training exercise.

Putin was heard stating, “Today we are conducting another exercise of strategic deterrence forces,” in a video tape that the Kremlin made public.

“We will work out the actions of officials to control the use of nuclear weapons with practical launches of ballistic and cruise missiles,” Putin stated.

The Russian president also emphasized that Moscow must have its nuclear forces prepared for action but that the nation will not participate in an arms race.

Since February 2024, Russia and Ukraine have been at odds, and there is no end in sight as both countries seek to strengthen their ties.

South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy talked about North Korea’s reported troop deployment in Russia.

Choe Son Hui, the foreign minister of North Korea, began his official visit to Russia on Tuesday.

According to a diplomatic source quoted by the TASS state news agency, Choe arrived in Vladivostok, a city in far eastern Russia, by plane. “Tomorrow she will be in Moscow,” the source stated.

Russian news outlets stated Choe promised to speak with Russian authorities, but he did not specify who they would be speaking with.

North Korea and Russia, longtime friends, have recently strengthened their relationship. In September of last year, Kim Jong-un, the leader of Pyongyang, traveled to Russia’s Far East for a rare meeting with Putin.

In June, Putin visited Pyongyang for the first time in 24 years and inked a treaty on mutual defense with Kim.

In January and September of this year, Choe has already traveled to Russia.

The presidents of the two nations decided to increase “strategic dialogue” at their June meeting, according to the Russian embassy in Pyongyang, which facilitated Choe’s most recent visit.
