Rawalakot, (Parliament Times) : Senior Pakistan Muslim League-N (PML-N) leader and former Minister of Government, Sardar Tahir Anwar Khan, announced his withdrawal from the nine-member high-level government committee regarding the future of refugee seats. He made the announcement at a press conference held at Ghazi Millat Press Club, Rawalakot, along with other party colleagues.
He stated that he was declining the government’s nomination to the committee and respects the concerns raised by the Joint Public Action Committee. “After consulting with the President of PML-N Azad Kashmir, I have decided not to join this committee,” he said.
Sardar Tahir Anwar Khan, a practicing lawyer for over forty years, emphasized that he cannot accept this political responsibility. He stated, “The agreement between the Action Committee and the government is of national importance, and I cannot play any negative role in a matter of such significance.” He added that throughout his political career, he has never engaged in any form of malpractice or compromise.
He recalled the historical significance of Azad Jammu and Kashmir, stating that it was earned by the sacrifices of their ancestors, referring to October 24, 1947, when the Azad government established its principles. He stressed that tensions among the people of Azad Kashmir should not occur, and the region’s peaceful environment must be preserved without disruption.
Sardar Tahir Anwar Khan reiterated that his decision to avoid the committee was both premeditated and principled. “I respect the concerns raised by the Joint Action Committee because I represent the ideals of those ancestors who laid down their lives for this state,” he said. He pledged to continue his struggle for the integrity and freedom of Jammu and Kashmir alongside his colleagues.
Other PML-N leaders present at the press conference included Khawaja Imran Ashraf, Municipal Corporation Councillor Azhar Karim, Zafar Khan Khalid Bashir, and Neera Ashraf. The former minister clarified that his party, PML-N, had no role in his nomination to the committee.
He expressed surprise that his name was announced for this sensitive matter without prior consultation. “I am a public representative, and the Joint Action Committee represents the public will. Respecting their concerns, I officially resign from the committee in today’s press conference,” he concluded.
