Pakistan’s exports to nine regional countries rise 9pc in FY21, including China, while imports grew to 36pc

The latest data released by the State Bank of Pakistan showed Pakistan’s exports to nine regional countries posted a growth of 9.14 percent while imports grew by nearly 36pc in FY21 from last year.

The country’s exports to Afghanistan, China, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, India, Iran, Nepal, Bhutan, and the Maldives account for a small quantity of $3.925 billion, 14.21pc of Pakistan’s overall worldwide exports of $25.304bn in FY21.

China tops the listing of nations of Pakistan’s exports to its neighbors, leaving India and Bangladesh behind. Pakistan executed its border change with the farther neighbor Nepal, Sri Lanka, Bhutan, Bangladesh, and the Maldives through the sea.

But imports from those nations edged up to $13.827bn in FY21 against $10.183bn over the corresponding duration of 12 months, a boom of 35.78pc. As a result of big imports, Pakistan’s change deficit with the region increased at some point of the period under review.

Pakistan’s exports to China published boom in 2020-21. The bulk of the local exports share, which money owed for 52.05pc, is with China even as the closing is for 8 nations. Pakistan’s exports to China published a boom of 22.85pc to $2.043bn in FY21 from $1.663bn in FY20. The rise in export proceeds became referred to as the post-Covid duration in particular the exports of rice.

Contrary to this, imports from China grew 39pc to $13.302bn at some point of the period under review against $9.568bn over the past 12 months. The bulk of 96.2pc imports is coming from China, as other imports are from different 8 nations. Pakistan’s exports to Afghanistan published a boom of 10.47pc to $983.295m in FY21 from $890.052m in the duration of FY20. The country’s exports to India plunged 89pc to $3.139m this 12 months from $28.644m in FY20. The imports from India dipped 50.8pc to $183.785m against $373.561m over the past 12 months. The authorities have suspended trade with New Delhi. Since the advent of the Covid-19 pandemic, the authorities have best allowed the import of pharmaceutical merchandise from India.

Pakistan’s exports to Iran jumped 181.8pc to $0.155m in FY21 from $0.055m in FY20. Most of the change with Tehran is executed through casual channels in border regions of Baluchistan. No imports have been crafted from Tehran at some point in the period under review.

Exports to Bangladesh reduced 11.49pc to $615.212m in FY21 from $695.102m. Imports from Dhaka published a boom of 56.22pc to $76.134m this 12 months against $48.733m over the past 12 months.

Similarly, exports to Sri Lanka dipped with the aid of using 6.50pc to $270.320m in FY21 from $289.120m inside the preceding 12 months. On the opposite hand, Pakistan’s exports to Nepal plunged with the aid of using 79pc to $4.551m in FY21 from $21.720m in the preceding 12 months. However, imports published a boom of 211pc to $1.244m this 12 months against $0.400m over the past 12 months.

Exports to the Maldives dipped with the aid of using 28.6pc to $6.052m from $8.478m. Import published a boom of 384pc to $0.092m this 12 months against $0.019m over the past 12 months.

Export proceeds to Bhutan have been recorded at $0.155m in FY21 against $0.094m over the past 12 months. The imports from Bhutan have been referred to at $0.075m in FY21 against $0.097m over the preceding 12 months.
