ISLAMABAD: Pakistan and China have agreed to expedite the creation of special economic zones (SEZs) and the main line (ML-1) railway project.
According to a press release, the National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC) Chairman Zheng Shanjie and Minister for Planning and Development Ahsan Iqbal agreed on this during a meeting on Tuesday in Beijing.
The four-day trip is part of the planning minister’s official celebration of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor’s (CPEC) 10th anniversary. The minister met with important Chinese officials during his visit and co-chaired a special Joint Cooperation Committee (JCC) meeting with the vice chairman of the NDRC.
In a one-on-one meeting with the NDRC chairman, the minister congratulated Mr. Shanjie on assuming his new position and assured him of full support in the successful completion of CPEC projects on behalf of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif.
The NDRC chairman offered to share Chinese expertise and knowledge to enhance Pakistan’s export earnings and accelerate SEZs development.

The NDRC chairman said that China and Pakistan were close friends and allies, and he added that despite the ups and downs of world politics, the two nations had always stood together and offered one another’s full support.
He also recognised Ahsan Iqbal’s crucial contribution to the creation of CPEC. Nine of the 12 JCC meetings have had Mr. Iqbal serving as co-chair.
