In the direction of Midwest City and Tinker Air Force Base, a severe thunderstorm containing a tornado passed across eastern Oklahoma City.

Authorities say severe storms and reported tornadoes ripped through Oklahoma early Sunday, causing extensive power disruptions and injuries.

According to Capt. Valerie Littlejohn of the Oklahoma City Police Department, at least six persons were sent to hospitals with non-life-threatening injuries as part of a damaging path of severe weather that caused damage in the Oklahoma City region.

According to Littlejohn, the damage included downed gas and electrical lines, trees, traffic lights, and signs. According to local news reports, there were damaged homes, felled trees and power lines, and overturned cars.

“Get under cover right away.”
According to PowerOutage.us, about 95,000 customers in the state were without power.

On Sunday morning, a tornado watch was issued by the National Weather Service for the region.

Just before 1:30 a.m., the agency’s Norman, Oklahoma, office posted on social media that a tornado was causing a severe thunderstorm to move through eastern Oklahoma City in the direction of Midwest City and Tinker Air Force Base.

“If you’re in the path of this storm, take cover immediately!” the warning cautioned.
