As the honored guest, Emine Erdogan takes part in the Awareness and Support Program for Cancer Control in Member African Countries of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC).

The Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC)’s Awareness and Support Program for Cancer Control in African Member Countries has extended its gratitude to First Lady Emine Erdogan of Turkey, who was the program’s honored guest.

The event underscored the significance of combating cancer in African nations and was held in the capital of Nigeria, Abuja. Notable attendees included Rafael Mariano Grossi, President of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), First Lady of Nigeria Remi Tinubu, First Lady of Sierra Leone Fatima Maada Bio, and First Lady of the Gambia Fatoumatta Bah-Barrow.

After Emine Erdogan spoke to the attendees on Thursday, the OIC Deputy Secretary General Dr. Ahmad Kawesa Sengendo, Remi Tinubu, and Fatima Maada Bio commended her.

Sengendo emphasized that, in organizing the first special session of the 13th OIC Summit in Istanbul in 2016, Emine Erdogan set a precedent for everyone.

Additionally, I want to sincerely thank you for your support of this wonderful endeavor. “Your attendance serves as evidence of your support for this endeavor,” Sengendo remarked.

“Your presence is a demonstration of our commitment to ensuring a healthier future for the people of the African Member States.”

At the 2016 summit, Remi Tinubu expressed gratitude to Emine Erdogan for hosting the first female heads of state and ladies.

We love you very much, Emine Erdogan,” Tinubu added, thanking her for her interest in and passion for the African continent. I appreciate you founding the Africa Center in Ankara.

“You came here and showed us that food, diet, and environmental factors are very, very important in the fight against cancer and that we can learn a lot from Asian culture,” Tinubu said, expressing gratitude to Erdogan for bringing her a variety of plants to use in her thesis research on medicinal plants.

“The love of Africa by the Turkish First Lady”
Tinubu emphasized that Erdogan’s book “My Journeys in Africa” is the most transparent example of her love for Africa, and he said that she motivated him to pursue research on medicinal plants. Additionally, Tinubu conveyed his heartfelt appreciation to Emine Erdogan for attending the event.

“I want to congratulate (Emine Erdogan) for coming together with the wives of African leaders,” added Fatima Maada Bio, referring to Emine Erdogan as a “precious mother.”

“Her involvement demonstrates that we have support from around the globe in addition to Africa.”

“I would like to pay tribute to the wives of leaders who have a unique perspective on what is happening to their people and are helping us in this regard,” Grossi added, reiterating the IAEA’s unwavering support in the fight against cancer.
