For the first time, Israel has acknowledged its role in the September fatal attack on communications devices that exploded in Lebanon, which Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu says he approved.
Hezbollah has earlier promised retaliation and blamed its arch-enemy for the bombs that inflicted the group a serious damage.
“Netanyahu confirmed on Sunday that he greenlighted the pager attacks in Lebanon,” his spokesperson Omer Dostri told AFP in reference to the events.
In mid-September, two days in a run, handheld devices purportedly used by Hezbollah militants exploded in stores, on the streets, and at funerals.
They came before Israel’s current military assault in Lebanon, killing up to 40 people and injuring close to 3,000.
Since Israel escalated its air offensive on Lebanon in late September and then committed ground soldiers to invade the southern part of the country, the attacks have gotten more intense.
