JI AJK–GB Amir Dr. Muhammad Mushtaq Khan calls for proportional representation in upcoming elections

Mirpur, (AJK),  (Parliament Times) : Leader of Jamaat-e-Islami Azad Jammu and Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan, Dr. Muhammad Mushtaq Khan, has demanded that the upcoming elections in Azad Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan be held under the system of proportional representation. He said that politics driven by money, electables, and turncoats has shaken the very foundations of parliamentary democracy. The change of four prime ministers within four years is the worst example of turncoat politics.
He stated that proportional representation would put an end to all forms of political blackmailing culture. He called upon various political parties, intellectuals, and influential circles who carry an agenda to take this state towards its ultimate destination to sit together and deliberate, asserting that proportional representation is the only viable option and the demand of the time.
Dr. Muhammad Mushtaq Khan expressed these views while addressing gatherings during his visit to Mirpur. On the occasion, Amir District Mirpur, Maulana Atiq Ahmed Khan, along with other leaders, also addressed the gatherings.
While speaking, Dr. Mushtaq Khan said that parliamentary democracy in Azad Kashmir is heading towards complete failure, and the unjust practice of changing four prime ministers within a single term highlights the fragility of the system and the alarming situation it has created. He urged the public to place their trust in Jamaat-e-Islami, stating that the party’s candidates are present in every constituency of Azad Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan with an agenda to establish a welfare state.
He said that Jamaat-e-Islami would confine turncoats to where they belong and restore the national identity of Kashmiris, which has been severely damaged by such elements. He pledged that the party would resolve public issues, eliminate the curse of interest-based economy, create employment opportunities for youth, and take practical steps for the freedom of Kashmir.
Dr. Mushtaq Khan further said that Mirpur city is the face of the entire state but is plagued by numerous problems. He assured that Jamaat-e-Islami would end load-shedding and provide free electricity to the people.
