Following an Israeli rule that forbids UNRWA from providing relief to Palestinian refugees, there was demolition.
According to a local official, the UNRWA office in the Nur Shams refugee camp in the northern West Bank city of Tulkarem was destroyed by the Israeli army.
The leader of a local service committee in the camp, Nehad al Shaweeh, told Anadolu on Thursday that “Israeli bulldozers brought down the building, through which the UN agency runs the daily needs of residents.”
“The building was partially damaged during previous Israeli raids and today it was completely demolished by Israeli forces,” he said.
Three days prior to the demolition, Israel’s Knesset enacted a measure on Monday that would gradually restrict UNRWA’s operations in Gaza, the occupied West Bank, and East Jerusalem. The law will go into force in ninety days.
The Israeli embargo, according to UNRWA Commissioner-General Philippe Lazzarini, is “unprecedented and dangerous,” because it violates the UN Charter.
UNRWA operates a health center and two schools in Nur Shams camp, according to the official Palestinian news agency Wafa.
According to the Palestinian Health Ministry, an Israeli drone strike in the camp early Thursday killed two Palestinians, including a kid.
Israel’s ruthless offensive on Gaza, which has killed over 43,100 people—mostly women and children—after a Hamas attack last year, has caused tension to run high throughout the West Bank.
According to the Palestinian Health Ministry, Israeli army fire in the occupied West Bank has already killed at least 766 Palestinians and injured almost 6,300 others.
