Iran says talks on nuclear deal ‘in critical phase’

TEHRAN: Accommodations to revive the Iran nuclear deal have entered a “ critical” stage during which some crucial issues still need to be resolved, Tehran’s top diplomat said on Wednesday.

The 2015 accord had offered Iran warrants relief in return for checks on its nuclear program, but the US unilaterally withdrew in 2018 under also- chairman Donald Trump.

Western powers that have been locked in nuclear addresses with Iran have said in the once-week that a deal is within reach while stressing the ball is in the Islamic republic’s court.

Iran’s Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian said on Wednesday that the accommodations had “ reached a critical and important stage”.

“ We hope that some sensitive and important issues remaining in the accommodations will be resolved in the coming days with literalism from the Western side,” he said at a common press conference with his Oman counterpart Sayyid Badr al-Busaidi.

Amir-Abdollahian said he was “ auspicious” about a deal while averring Iran would not give up its “ red lines” in the accommodations. He didn’t unfold.

The Vienna addresses, which involve Iran as well as Britain, China, France, Germany, and Russia directly, and the United States laterally, proceeded in November.

In recent days, progress in the accommodations has been reported by France, Germany, the United States, and indeed Iran.

Signs of an agreement coming together surfaced over the once week, with France advising that Iran has just days left to accept a deal.

“ It isn’t a question of weeks, it’s a question of days,” said its Foreign Minister Jean-Yves Le Drian.

“ We need political opinions from the Iranians. They have a veritably clear choice,” he told the French Senate on Feb 16.

Two days latterly, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz said the process had reached “ the moment of verity”.

He said there “ was the chance to reach an agreement that will allow warrants to be lifted” but also advised that the addresses could still collapse.

Most lately, Iran’s sworn adversary Israel said on Sunday that a deal might be agreed soon while advising that it would be “ weaker” than the original 2015 agreement.
