As the Houthis claim assaults on an American aircraft carrier and Israeli targets, the strikes, which are said to be targeting facilities in Sanaa and Hudaida, represent a significant escalation.
According to the Israeli Public Broadcasting Corporation, Israel, the United States, and Britain launched their first coordinated attack on Houthi targets in Yemen.
Al-Masirah TV, which is connected with the Houthis, also said on Friday that a number of airstrikes were directed towards the area around the Al-Sabeen Square in the Yemeni capital, Sanaa.
The incident took place during a pro-Palestine march in the midst of Israel’s ongoing, 16-month-old genocidal war in Gaza.
The Houthis also recorded six airstrikes against Hudaida, a port city in western Yemen.
According to the report, eight US, Israeli, and British airstrikes on the Haziz Central Power Station in Sanaa damaged multiple residences and injured one worker.
The power plant in the Sanhan sector of the Sanaa governorate was the target of the airstrikes, the channel reported.
Subsequently, a top Israeli official told Israeli public broadcasters that Tel Aviv had coordinated strikes in Yemen with Washington.
The Israeli military also claimed that its fighter jets had hit “military targets on the western coast and inland Yemen that belong to the Houthi terrorist regime.”
According to the statement, the targets were “military infrastructure sites in the Hizaz power station, which serves as a central source of energy for the Houthi regime in its military activities.”
Israel “struck military infrastructure in the Hudaida and Ras Isa ports on the western coast,” the statement continued.
US carriers being targeted by Houthis.
The escalation followed the Houthis’ Monday claims of missile and drone attacks on targets in southern and central Israel, as well as their attack on the US aircraft carrier USS Harry Truman in the northern Red Sea.
In a show of solidarity with Gaza, where Israel has been waging a genocidal war since October 2023 that has claimed over 46,000 lives, the Houthis have used drones and missiles to target Israeli cargo ships or those associated with Tel Aviv in the Red Sea.
With sporadic Houthi retaliation, a coalition led by the United States has been conducting airstrikes since early 2024 that it claims target Houthi locations in Yemen in response to the group’s Red Sea raids.
