Between the Sudanese army and the Rapid Support Forces, civilians are caught in the crossfire, resulting in several casualties and displacements.
At least 20 people lost their lives in battles between the army and the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) in Sennar and Zalingei, the capital cities of Central Darfur State.
Five persons were killed and three injured when Sudanese army aircraft bombarded the Khamsa Dagaig camp in Zalingei on Saturday night, according to a statement released on Sunday by the civil organization General Coordination of Camps for the Displaced and Refugees.
A non-governmental organization called Sudanese Doctors Network said that RSF artillery firing on the city of Sennar on Saturday resulted in about 15 fatalities and several injuries in the southern region of the country.
The statement said, “A camp for displaced people was targeted by the indiscriminate shelling, causing a humanitarian catastrophe. The displaced people were then transferred to the city’s teaching hospital for treatment.”
Four shells were fired into the Abu Shouk camp for displaced people by the RSF, according to a statement from the Coordination of Resistance Committees in El Fasher, the capital of North Darfur State.
Regarding the incident, neither the army nor the RSF have yet to comment.
Disagreements about the RSF’s incorporation into the army between RSF commander Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo and army leader Gen. Abdel Fattah al Burhan set off the conflict in Sudan in April 2023.
Due to the continued fighting, which has resulted in millions of people being displaced and approximately 18,800 deaths, the conflict has caused a catastrophic humanitarian disaster.
