Grand Walk marks observance of World White Cane Day in AJK to express solidarity with blind persons

MIRPUR ( AJK)(Parliament Times): World White Cane Day was marked awareness walk held under the auspices of by Uqab School for the Blind in Mirpur on Wednesday.

Like rest of the world, the observance of the World White Stick Day in AJK was aimed at to raise awareness for the rights of the blind and protect their dignity, since the society consider involvement of the blind imperative in social and economic activities as the need of the hour, like the normal persons of the society.

A large number of citizens of Mirpur participated in the walk to show solidarity with the visually impaired humanity

Deputy Commissioner Mirpur Yasir Riaz, SSP Mirpur Khurram Iqbal, Professor Ilyas Ayub, General Secretary of Pakistan Press Club UK Sajid Yousuf, former President of District Bar Association Mirpur Imtiaz Ahmed Raja besides a large number of blind students, teachers, representatives of civic and social organizations led the walk.

The participants were holding banners bearing slogans depicting the importance of the white cane and the rights of the blind.

The spirit of the participants in the walk was remarkable in expressing solidarity with the visually impaired members of the society.

Speakers on this occasion demanded of the AJK government to improve special educational institutions besides increasing employment opportunities for special persons including including visibly impaired persons.
