The most recent development follows the joint departure of key presidential staff.
Following President Yoon Suk Yeol’s unsuccessful attempt to implement martial law in the nation, the entire South Korean Cabinet reportedly offered to step down on Wednesday, according to local media.
Following the collective resignation of key presidential aides, the Cabinet reportedly offered to step down, according to the KBS broadcaster.
The mass resignations of top secretaries and the chief of staff were announced by the Presidential Office early on Wednesday.
However, when martial law was lifted overnight, Prime Minister Han Duck-soo swore earlier in the morning to continue serving the people.
The resignations follow a period of extreme political unrest in South Korea following the proclamation of martial law, which was swiftly revoked by parliament.
For the first time in forty-five years, Yoon announced the lifting of martial law at 4:27 a.m. on Wednesday, 1927GMT, Tuesday, after declaring it at 10.25 p.m. on Tuesday (1325GMT).
However, 190 members of the 300-seat parliament rejected his proposal, thus he must now abide by their motion.
After Yoon retracted his plan to implement martial law, which was opposed by the majority of parliamentarians, the resolution was approved by a Cabinet meeting chaired by Prime Minister Han Duck-soo.
