Dozens found dead in trailer in US state of Texas

At least 46 settlers have been set up dead inside a tractor-caravan in San Antonio megacity, Texas, US officers said, in what appears to be one of the most deadly recent incidents of mortal smuggling along the US- Mexico border.

Mexico’s Foreign Minister Marcelo Ebrard called the suffocation of the settlers on Monday in the truck the” tragedy in Texas” on Twitter and said the original consulate was en route to the scene, though the ethnicities of the victims hadn’t been verified.

An original fire department functionary said there were 46 people dead, adding 16 people including 12 grown-ups and four children were transported to the sanitarium. The functionary said the cases were hot to the touch and were suffering from prostration.

Police said three people were detained.

Immigration programs under fire

The truck was set up next to road tracks in a remote area on the megacity’s southern outskirts, San Antonio’s KSAT TV reported.

There have been a record number of migratory crossings at the US- Mexico border in recent months, which has sparked examens of the immigration programs of US President Joe Biden, a Democrat.

Texas Governor Greg Abbott placed the blame for the deaths on Biden’s programs on Twitter, saying they” show the deadly consequences of his turndown to apply the law.”

Temperatures in San Antonio, which is about 250 km from the Mexican border, swelled to a high of39.4 degrees Celsius on Monday with high moisture.

Heat poses a serious peril, particularly when temperatures can rise oppressively inside vehicles.

In July 2017, ten settlers failed after being transported in a tractor caravan that was discovered by San Antonio police in a Wal- Mart parking lot.

The motorist, James Matthew Bradley, Jr., was doomed the ensuing time to life in captivity for his part in the smuggling operation.
