The Diamer-Bhasha Dam, a gravity dam filled with concrete, is currently under construction on the Indus River. It connects the districts of Kohistan in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Diamer in Gilgit Baltistan, which is administered by Pakistan, with Kashmir. In 1998, the Pakistani prime minister at the time placed the foundation stone. The name “Bhasha” comes from the location of the dam, which is 315 kilometers from Tarbela Dam and 40 km downstream of Chilas town. With a height of 272 meters, the eight million acre feet (MAF) reservoir will be the world’s tallest roller compact concrete (RCC) dam.
