Chinese navy ship arrives at Sri Lanka port amid security concerns by India

A Chinese cortege vessel has arrived at a Beijing- erected harborage in southern Sri Lanka, after its harborage call was before delayed due to security enterprises raised by India.

The Yuan Wang 5 sailed into the Hambantota harborage and was ate by Sri Lankan and Chinese officers on Tuesday.

The development could spark solicitude in India, which views China’s rising influence in the Indian Ocean with dubitation.

“The Yuan Wang 5 is a important shadowing vessel whose significant upstanding reach — reportedly around 750 kilometres — means that several anchorages in Kerala, Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh could be on China’s radar, ” the Indian Express review wrote.

The developments girding the vessel emphasize the contending interests of indigenous titans India and China in the small islet nation.

For further than a decade, Sri Lanka’s strategic position in the Indian Ocean and along one of the busiest shipping routes has seen both countries battle for influence.

Over the times, Beijing was extensively seen as having an upper hand with its free- fluid loans and structure investments.

But Sri Lanka’s profitable collapse proved an occasion for India to gain lesser sway, as New Delhi stepped in with massive fiscal and material backing to its neighbour.

‘Scientific exploration’

The boat has authorization to dock in Hambantota until August 22, Sri Lanka’s Foreign Ministry said last weekend.

It added that China had agreed the boat would keep its identification systems on and would not carry out any exploration conditioning while in Sri Lankan waters.

former sanctioned Chinese media reports have described PLA officers serving in command positions aboard the vessels in the Yuan Wang class, which may also have civilians in their crews.

China Ministry of Foreign Affairs prophet Wang Wenbin dismissed enterprises about the boat in a briefing Tuesday.

“I would like to reiterate that the marine scientific exploration conducted by the exploration boat Yuan Wang 5 conforms to transnational law and transnational common practice, and won’t affect the security and profitable interests of any country,” he said.

Indian Foreign Ministry prophet Arindam Bagchi said last week that India was apprehensive of the planned visit by the vessel and that it precisely monitors any development that affects its security and profitable interests and would take all measures to guard them.

He also dismissed claims last week that India put pressure on Sri Lanka to delay the boat.
