Police in Nyeri county are looking into what caused the fire at Hillside Endarasha Primary on Thursday night and have expressed concern that the number of fatalities could increase.

17 kids were murdered in a fire at a school in central Kenya, according to a police spokeswoman on Friday. The media had reported that the students had been burned beyond recognition.

The spokeswoman, Resila Onyango, stated in a broadcast on Kenya’s Hot 96 FM radio that more rescuers were en route to the Hillside Endarasha Academy in Nyeri and that more information will be released by the authorities later.

Over the phone with Reuters, Onyango stated, “We have lost 17 children in the fire event while 14 are injured… “Our team is at the scene at the scene at the moment.”

The pupils were severely burned in the fire, as previously reported by Citizen Television.

In September 2017, a school fire in Nairobi, the country’s capital, claimed the lives of nine kids.
