The administration claims that a woman has been killed every four days this year due to a surge in violence against women, which served as the impetus for the protests.

Prime Minister Anthony Albanese declared that violence against women in Australia is a “epidemic” while thousands of people demonstrated in Sydney and other major Australian cities to call for stricter legislation against violence.

The administration claims that a woman has been killed every four days this year due to a surge in violence against women, which served as the impetus for the protests on Saturday.

The demonstrations came after a large-scale stabbing incident that claimed six lives in Sydney this month, five of them women.

Sydney, the state capital of New South Wales, saw a gathering of protesters calling for stricter criminal legislation, followed by a march that blocked main roadways.

Protesters holding signs that said “No More Violence” and “Respect”

It was believed that some 3,000 people demonstratedd at the city’s parliament building in Adelaide, the capital of South Australia.

Albanese participates
On Sunday, Prime Minister Albanese announced that he would participate in a protest in Canberra, the nation’s capital.

“On social media platform X, I will walk alongside women throughout Australia to declare that enough is enough.” Albanese stated.

Senator Sarah Hanson-Young of the Green Party stated in Adel aide that “a national emergency response” was required to address the problem.

A representative for Hanson-Young stated, “Women are tired and sick of being told ‘yes it’s bad but there’s not much we can do.'”
State capitals Perth, Western Australia; Melbourne, Victoria; Hobart, Tasmania; and Brisbane, Queensland were all set to host similar protests over the course of the weekend.

In the 26 million-person country of Australia, violence against women is still a problem. Tens of thousands of people demonstrated in 2021 in response to claims of sexual assault and wrongdoing in some of the most powerful governmental positions in the country.
