Donika Gervalla-Schwarz, the foreign minister and deputy prime minister of Kosovo, emphasized the continued collaboration between her country and Turkey and referred to it as essential for tackling issues related to regional security.

During a press conference in Pristina, Donika Gervalla-Schwarz, the foreign minister and deputy prime minister of Kosovo, emphasized the critical role that NATO and Turkey play in preserving peace and stability in the Balkans.

Alongside Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan, Gervalla-Schwarz emphasized the importance of Kosovo’s and Turkey’s continuous collaboration in tackling regional security issues.

Reiterating Kosovo’s alliance with NATO in the face of escalating tensions with Serbia, she stated, “The role of Türkiye and NATO is important in ensuring peace and stability in our region.”

In addition, Gervalla-Schwarz emphasized the close economic relations that exist between Kosovo and Turkey and how Turkish investments have had a major positive impact on Kosovo’s development.

“The importance of economic cooperation between Kosovo and Turkey cannot be overstated,” she stated, highlighting the main advantages being increased infrastructure and job creation.

Enduring Relationships
The foreign minister went on to denounce Serbia’s recent actions, calling them aggressive and destabilizing. She brought up Serbia’s threats to shut down border crossings, calling them “evidence of hegemonic intentions” and a component of Serbia’s continuous attempts to destabilize the area.

The significant bilateral link between the Turkish community in Kosovo and the Albanian community in Türkiye was also emphasized by Gervalla-Schwarz.

She conveyed her appreciation for Türkiye’s ongoing assistance, especially with Kosovo’s efforts to gain more international recognition, including its application to join the Council of Europe.

Asserting Kosovo’s commitment to peace and prosperity alongside its Turkish neighbors, Gervalla-Schwarz added, “We are committed to developing these relations and contributing to building a better future for our entire region.”
