The attack has been attributed to the banned Balochistan Liberation Army, according to regional media.

In the late hours of Sunday, a large explosion near an international airport in Karachi, the commercial hub of Pakistan, targeted a convoy of several dozen Chinese tourists, killing at least one local and injuring ten others, including a Chinese person, according to local media and police reports.

One of the Chinese nationals in the convoy outside the airport was hurt by an improvised explosive device, according to Zia Lanjar, the home minister for the southern Sindh province, which encompasses Karachi.

He claimed that the injured party had been brought to the medical facility.

Local media reports that the attack has been attributed to the banned Balochistan Liberation Army.

Chinese nationals have long been the focus of the BLA in Pakistan, which accuses them of taking resources from the mineral-rich southwest province of Balochistan.

Massive flame plumes were be seen rising from multiple wrecked cars in footage that local channel Geo News carried, as firefighters battled to douse the fire.

It was reported that at least two of the injured had unstable conditions.

About forty Chinese nationals came aboard a China Air flight at 9:45 p.m. local time (16:45 GMT), according to sources at Jinnah International Airport.

The airport was kilometers from where the explosion was audible.

According to authorities, there has been no alteration in aircraft operations, and all airport installations remain safe.
