According to investigators, a South Korean court has issued an arrest warrant for impeached and suspended President Yoon Suk Yeol because of his brief attempt to declare martial law in the nation.
The Joint Investigation Headquarters said in a statement on Tuesday that “the search and arrest warrants for President Yoon Suk Yeol, which were requested by the Joint Investigation Headquarters, were issued this morning.”
The Seoul Western District Court authorized the warrant, according to the Corruption Investigation Office for High-ranking Officials.
According to local media, this is the first arrest warrant ever issued for a sitting president in South Korea.
South Korean investigators requested an arrest warrant for Yoon on Monday in connection with the brief martial law imposed this month.
A criminal inquiry into potential insurrection charges against Yoon is underway.
