Following the environment minister’s announcement that she resigned in protest of a cabinet appointment, Petro made the request.

After the environment minister claimed to have quit over a cabinet appointment, Colombian President Gustavo Petro stated he had asked his cabinet colleagues to step down before a reshuffle.

“I have requested the resignation of ministers and directors of administrative departments”, Petro stated on X.

“There will be some changes in the cabinet to achieve a greater compliance with the program mandated by the people”.

He gave no other information.

The action followed Environment Minister Susana Muhamad’s announcement on Sunday that she had resigned and complained to the president over Petro appointee Armando Benedetti joining the cabinet.

According to Muhamad, she will continue to serve as president of the United states COP16 on biodiversity, which was held in October of last year and brought together 200 states.

She stated that at a recent ministerial meeting, she expressed her dissatisfaction of Benedetti. She claimed that he was accused of influence peddling and brutality against women.

Last week, Benedetti claimed that untrue rumors were being spread against him.
