Although the precise identities of the victims have not yet been verified, locals say that both ethnic Rakhine and Rohingya are among them.

According to local media, a junta airstrike in Myanmar has killed at least 41 people and injured 50 more in the Rakhine State.

In the town controlled by the Arakan Army (AA), which the ethnic armed group took from the Junta last March, more than 500 homes were destroyed during the bombardment the day before.

Fires started by explosions persisted Thursday, according to Myanmar Now News.

Although the precise identities of the victims have not yet been verified, locals say that both ethnic Rakhine and Rohingya are among them.

Based in Rakhine State, the Arakan Army is an ethnic nationalist military group that is fighting the Myanmar junta.

The military campaign in August 2017 forced most of the Rohingya, who reside in the Rakhine State, to leave Myanmar.

Approximately half a million of them still reside in areas under the Arakan Army’s total authority, which includes the entire border with Bangladesh.

The Arakan Army is posing fresh challenges to the Rohingya, who have long been persecuted by Myanmar’s military.
