South Korea captures a North Korean soldier fighting for Russia in Ukraine

Volodymyr Zelenskyy, the president of Ukraine, said earlier this week that about 3,000 North Korean soldiers had been “killed or wounded” in the conflict.

South Korea has announced that Ukrainian forces have detained a North Korean soldier who was sent to aid Russia in its conflict with Ukraine.

South Korea’s National Intelligence Service (NIS) stated in a statement Friday that “it has been confirmed that one injured North Korean soldier has been captured through real-time information sharing with an allied country’s intelligence agency.”

This is the first time that the capture of a North Korean warrior in the war has been officially confirmed.

“Breaking document”
Over 1,000 North Korean soldiers have been killed, according to South Korea’s Joint Chiefs of Staff (JCS), which also stated that Pyongyang is getting ready for the “rotation or additional deployment of soldiers.”

Additionally, North Korea is providing Russia with cutting-edge weapons, including as 170mm self-propelled artillery and 240mm rocket launchers.

According to Seoul’s military, North Korea is using the conflict to gain battlefield experience and modernize its conventional military capabilities.

As Russian President Vladimir Putin praised their defense deal as a “breakthrough document” and noted improved bilateral relations after talks with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un in June, North Korean state media emphasized the growing ties between Pyongyang and Moscow.
