Trump’s presidential victory prompts the resignation of the US ambassador to Kenya.

Meg Whitman references the choices made by the American people in the most recent election in her departure statement.

The US ambassador to Kenya has turned in her walking papers, only days after Donald Trump won the US presidential election.

“I informed my colleagues at the US embassy today that I had resigned and turned it in to President Joe Biden. “Serving the American people by fortifying our partnership with Kenya has been an honor and a privilege,” Meg Whitman said in a statement on Wednesday.

Whitman discussed her efforts to promote commercial, security, and healthcare cooperation between Kenya and the United States during her tenure, which started in 2022.

“More American businesses are now able to conduct business in Kenya thanks to my efforts. Thanks to our efforts, trade, employment, and US investment in Kenya have reached all-time highs,” she remarked.

She also highlighted the fact that, during her tenure, Kenya became the first significant non-NATO ally in sub-Saharan Africa.

Trump’s neglected relations
“I serve at the President’s request, just like all other US ambassadors. A new president will take office in January when the American people have spoken,” she continued.

The US-Kenya relationship will continue to be strong, according to Whitman, who said, “I have no doubt that our 60 years of partnership will continue to strengthen and serve Americans and Kenyans.”

As the US Embassy goes through a leadership shift under the incoming administration, her departure places Charge d’Affaires Marc Dillard in charge.

Some experts claim that under the first Trump administration, which was also marked by leaks of alleged racist statements made by Trump that his administration vehemently disputed, US relations with sub-Saharan Africa were neglected.
