A witness captured video of people who had fallen on the ground, bleeding, and one elderly person attempting to assist another.
Authorities in southwest China said that two people had died and twenty-one others had been injured in a knife attack at a hospital.
The attack that occurred on Tuesday at Zhenxiong County People’s Hospital in Yunnan province had no known reason.
According to a Zhenxiong police statement, the suspect is a male from a village in the same county and has been taken into custody.
An internet publication was informed by a witness that a doctor or doctors were among the injured, and that the suspect only just managed to escape the attack.
According to a Red Star social media post, the witness’s footage showed people who were bleeding and had fallen to the ground, as well as an elderly person attempting to assist another.
While the police statement stated that 21 individuals had been hurt, earlier media sources had stated that 23 people had been hurt. A man was seen being carried away by police in a video that Guizhou Province Television had uploaded online.
Zhenxiong County is located close to the Sichuan province border and 360 kilometers (220 miles) northeast of Kunming, the provincial capital of Yunnan.
In China, knife attacks have occurred previously, most frequently in kindergartens.
Last July, at a kindergarten in the Guangdong province of southeast China, a man brandishing a knife killed six people and injured one more.
In 2022, a man attacked a hospital in Shanghai with a knife, injuring 15 people, six of them critically. Last year, he received a death sentence.
