ISLAMABAD: Over $273 million in humanitarian aid has been provided by the United States to Afghan refugees in Pakistan and their host communities. The United States provided nearly $60 million in aid to Pakistani host communities and Afghan refugees during the fiscal year 2022.

Donald Blome, the US Ambassador, made the following remarks on Thursday during a ceremony in Islamabad: Pakistan has graciously hosted Afghan refugees for more than four decades, and the United States is proud to continue supporting this worthwhile cause.

The assistance from the United States is supporting recovery from the health and economic effects of the Covid-19 pandemic, improving Pakistani healthcare services and nutrition programs in Afghanistan-hosted areas, promoting livelihood activities for refugees and host communities, and improving infrastructure for water, sanitation, and hygiene.

The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) in Pakistan, Noriko Yoshida, remarked, “The UNHCR was on the ground immediately to respond to the devastating floods of 2022, providing Pakistanis and Afghan refugees with life-saving relief items thanks to the support of the US.”

Abdullah Fadil, the Pakistani representative of Unicef, expressed gratitude to the United States for its assistance in enabling Unicef to improve the lives of Afghan refugees.
