PM Shehbaz arrives in Samarkand for the SCO summit

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif arrived in Samarkand, Uzbekistan on Thursday on a two-day trip during which he’ll attend the 22nd periodic meeting of the Council of Heads of State(CHS) of the Shanghai Cooperation Organi­sation(SCO).

Finance Minister Miftah Ismail and Defence Minister Khawaja Asif are also accompanying the premier. Uzbekistan PM Abdulla Aripov entered Shehbaz upon his appearance at the field.

Shortly after arriving, the high minister visited Khizr Complex and paid his felicitations at the tomb of Uzbekistan’s first chairman, Islam Karimov.

On the first day of his two-day visit, the high minister will hold separate meetings with Uzbekistan President Shavkat Mirziyoyev and Tajikistan President Emomali Rahmon.

The high minister is listed to meet other world leaders including Russian President Vladimir Putin, Turkiye President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi, Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko, and Kyrgyz President Sadyr Japarov.

Still, Foreign Office Spokesman Asim Iftikhar before told Dawn PM Shehbaz had no plans to meet his Indian counterpart, Narendra Modi.

A functionary, when communicated, said though a brief courtesy meeting between the two was possible, they would not be holding addresses as none of the two sides had sought a meeting.

‘ Pakistan reiterates commitment to Shanghai Spirit ’

Previous to his departure, PM Shehbaz took to Twitter to partake his views on the SCO peak.

“The global profitable turbulence has needed the need for further cooperation among SCO member countries,” he said, adding that the “SCO vision” represented the bournes of 40 percent of the world’s population.

“Pakistan reiterates its commitment to ‘Shanghai Spirit’. collective respect and trust can be the bedrock of participated development and substance,” he said.

“The SCO has great eventuality to chart a way forward at a time of deeply fussing metamorphosis in geopolitical & geo- profitable fields,” he concluded.

Leaving for Uzbekistan today to attend the meeting of the Council of Heads of State of the SCO. The global economic turbulence has necessitated the need for more cooperation among the SCO member countries. The SCO vision represents the aspirations of 40% of world population.

The premier will be sharing in the CHS meeting on the assignation of President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziy­oyev, who’ll president it.

“At the forthcoming event, the SCO leaders will meditate on important global and indigenous issues, including climate change, food security, energy security, and sustainable force chains,” Radio Pakistan said.

They will also authorize agreements and documents that would chart the unborn direction of cooperation among SCO member countries.
